The excitement and fun of Halloween is anticipated for days, even weeks. But it lasts just for a few hours on one evening in late October. Then what happens to the costumes? Most people store them for the next year and hope they still fit.
But it does not have to end there. There are great ways to reuse Halloween costumes and Halloween costume accessories and make up during the year. Here is an idea and you can probably think of many more.
Create a monthly costume dinner night and have everyone dress up in their costume. Furthermore, it can be a time when each person plays the role of their character at the dinner table. Also, each person can tell what their character has been doing, since the last costume dinner. Encourage imaginative tales.
You can even create a menu to go with the meal and each item has a name for one of the family member's costume, such as Cinderella cream potatoes or Bumblebee apple pie. Of course, the menu is not shown until the costume dressed guests arrive at the dinner table! The menu can be printed on a computer and there is plenty of free clip art to decorate such a menu.
Such an activity will create special memories for each family member. There is nothing to say that special friends cannot be invited to such dinners. Be sure to take plenty of photos or even videos to be enjoyed in years to come when the family guests and their friends have moved on to new lives.
Also, think about Grandma and Grandpa and possibly other relatives who would enjoy inclusion. Wouldn't be fun if Grandma and Grandpa came to dinner in costume or participated through an Internet program such as Skype?
This article describes the use of Halloween costumes and characters to create a special event at dinner time. This is one of many ways Halloween costumes can be used for a special event beyond the few hours of use during Halloween itself. This type of event in itself is something family members will remember for life and possible create a tradition to be passed along to the next generation.
